Description

This exceptional antique George IV sterling silver serving platter by Paul Storr has an oval shaped form with a sunken plain oval central well.

The well of this silver platter is plain and unembellished.

The raised shaped border is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms, incorporating the motto 'Tam virtus quam honos' - As well virtue as honour*.

The rim of this impressive example of antique silverware is encompassed with an applied tied gadroon decorated border accented with alternating leaf designs to each incurve.

This exceptional serving platter was crafted by the renowned and collectable London silversmith Paul Storr.

*The motto, in conjunction with the three cinquefoils and swords palewise displayed on the coat of arms, pertains to the Hamilton family.

Condition

This antique sterling silver serving platter is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional, original condition.

There are some surface knife scratches to the well of the platter, in keeping with the age and purpose; if required these could be sympathetically reduced by a silversmith upon request.

The bright cut engraved decoration is crisp and the applied decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the platter are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
