This exceptional antique dessert service, in sterling silver and mother of pearl, consists of twelve knives and twelve forks.

The blades of the Victorian knives have a rounded form and the forks each have four tines/prongs.

The surface of each knife is embellished with fine and impressive bright cut engraved foliate decoration.

The surfaces of each fork are ornamented with a bright cut engraved foliate design, from the stem to the drop.

Each piece of this boxed Victorian dessert flatware service is fitted with the original carved mother of pearl handle; such services, with fine carved detail and large handles, are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

All the knives and forks retain the original sterling silver ferrules ornamented with embossed bands of ribbed ornamentation.

Each mother of pearl knife and fork is fitted to the fine and impressive original hinged walnut veneered canteen box with a lift up lid and lift out tray.

The interior of the box retains the original blue velvet fittings, and the cover bears the retailer's mark 'Furber & Sons, Jewellers, Cheltenham'.

This exceptional Victorian service was crafted by the renowned London silversmith and flatware maker George William Adams of Chawner & Co.
