The flared upper rim is encompassed with an applied moulded border.

This 19th century silver beaker is supported by a circular spreading foot embellished with impressive applied decoration to a plain collet style rim.

The hallmarks struck to the surface of the beaker include:

Maker's mark: EP, un canif / a penknife (Emile Puiforcat)*

Silver quality/purity mark: Minerva mark, 1 (.950, 950/1000)

The underside of the beaker bears the renowned maker/retailer's mark 'Puiforcat, Paris'.

* Items produced by Puiforcat are known to be of the highest quality. The hallmark EP was originally registered to Emile Puiforcat. Emile's grandson, Jean Elysée Puiforcat, was a silversmith, sculptor and designer who continued the use of the hallmark and established family name to gain the Miller's Antiques Encyclopedia title of "most important French Art Deco silversmith".
