Description

This exceptional antique sterling silver Hanukkiah* has plain circular capitals onto a plain waisted square column and foot.

This antique George V candelabrum features nine imposing angular arms (labra), four to either side of the column and one perpendicular.

The circular rounded capitals are fitted with the plain domed sconces; the four capitals to either side of the column are conjoined at the rim.

The upper portion of the column is fitted with an impressive cast and applied Star of David* design.

The lower portion of the square waisted column bears a plain square boss, in junction with the plain square swept base.

The base is embellished with applied lion mask motifs in addition to a band of embossed bead decoration above the plain collet style rim.

This exceptional antique silver menorah does not have a weighted base.

* This hanukkiah (Hebrew: חַנֻכִּיָּה) is lit during the eight-day holiday of Hanukkah. The ninth holder is called the shamash and is used to light the other eight during the celebrations.

** The Star of David can also be referred to as the Shield of David or Magen David and is a recognised symbol of Judaism.
