This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver taperstick/taper candlestick has a tapering cut-cornered triangular form with a shaped column.

The cylindrical capital of this antique 19th century silver taperstick is encircled with applied moulded girdles and surmounts a plain circular drip pan.

The exceptional cast sterling silver column has been modelled in the form of a wyvern in a broad stance.

The column is ornamented with details replicating the wyvern's scales and anatomical features, including a spiralling tail and extended wings.

This impressive figural column surmounts a plateaued base ornamented with a matte texture to the upper surface.

This 19th century silver taperstick does not have a weighted base.

* A wyvern (otherwise known as a wivern) is a legendary dragon that has two legs. This creature is popular within European literature, mythology and folklore, in addition to heraldry.

Date: 1897

This antique 19th century silver taperstick is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the collet rim of the base are all very clear.
