£1,865.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Austro-Hungarian 800 standard silver tea caddy in the Art Nouveau style; an addition to our silver teaware collection

SKU A9752

This exceptional Austro-Hungarian silver tea caddy has an oval rounded form.

The surface of this antique silver tea caddy is embellished with embossed iconic Art Nouveau style scrolling organic decoration, incorporating floral heads and interlacing leaves.

The box is fitted with a hinged cover accented with further embossed ornamentation, identical to that of the body.

The cover is surmounted by an impressive cast and applied floral finial, elevated on water leaf style supports.

This exceptional antique silver tea caddy is supported by four cast trifurcating leaf decorated feet.

The interior of the caddy features the original gilding.

The hallmarks to the cover and box include:

Makers mark: JE (untraced)

Assay mark: Dianakopf mark - A (Vienna, Austria)

Silver quality/purity mark: Dianakopf mark* (.800, 800/1000)

* This variation of the Dianakopf mark was used for Austro-Hungarian silver between 1872-1922; this mark, in addition to the Art Nouveau style, determines the date of this service as circa 1910.
