0.43ct Ruby, 0.11ct Emerald and 0.42ct Diamond, 18ct Yellow Gold Dragonfly Brooch - Antique Circa 1890

£3,950.00

A stunning, fine and impressive antique 0.43 carat ruby, 0.11 carat emerald and 0.42 carat diamond, 18 carat yellow gold and silver set dragonfly brooch; part of our dragonfly jewellery collections

SKU C7199

This stunning, fine and impressive antique brooch has been modelled in 18ct yellow gold with silver settings.

The brooch has been realistically modelled in the form of a dragonfly.

The abdomen of the dragonfly is ornamented with a feature collet set oval cut ruby.

The head of this impressive brooch is further embellished with two cabochon cut rubies representing the eyes.

The millegrain decorated, paired wings are embellished with a total of forty pavé set Dutch cut diamonds of various sizes.

A further eight round faceted cut rubies of various sizes ornament the wings of the dragonfly.

The tail of the dragonfly is represented by a curvilinear array of fourteen individually collet set round faceted cut emeralds, totalling 0.11ct.

The antique dragonfly brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and clasp fastening.

This gemstone insect brooch is hallmarked to the pin and clasp with the French gold import mark (owl) and to the clasp with the French import mark for silver (swan); these marks were struck to declare the piece was the legal standard of fineness, but unknown origin.

This 1890s brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18ct gold and silver.

This impressive dragonfly brooch is supplied with an independent diamond and gemstone grading report card.

"Rather than regarding inclusions in coloured stones as harmful, in small sizes and numbers that do not in any way detract from their beauty, they should be regarded as adding to desirability, for they provide identifying characteristics."
