Sterling Silver Boxer Statue/Table Ornament - Antique George VI

£5,950.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George VI English cast sterling silver regimental boxer statue/ornament; part of our sporting antiques silverware collection

SKU C9073

This exceptional antique George VI cast sterling silver ornament has been realistically modelled in the form of a male in an orthodox boxing stance throwing a jab.

This silver ornament has been embellished with details reproducing the figures' clothing, boxing gloves and anatomical features.

The ornament stands to a rectangular base, incorporating a textured finish to the upper portion

The underside of the weighted base bears a baize lining.

This model was crafted by the renowned silversmith H Phillips, and bears the retailer's mark 'Phillips Aldershot'; this silversmith operated from Aldershot, Hampshire.

Such hallmarked antique examples of this size are becoming increasingly difficult to locate and are rare to the market.

* This statue was acquired from the Berwick regiment and Kings Own Scottish Border Museum; it can be determined this piece replicates the appearance of a competitor in their tournament.

Maker: H Phillips

Date: 1938

This antique silver boxing statue is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast decoration is all very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the rim of the base are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.

Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this antique piece of silverware.
