Henry Chawner

Henry Chawner became a freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company in 1785 and entered his first mark as a plateworker in November 1786. In 1789 he married the daughter and heiress of Edward Hore, of Esher, Surrey.

Chawner partnered with John Emes in 1796 and retired from silversmithing in 1789 to the Manor House, Newton Valance – an estate he had purchased in 1810. His financially beneficial marriage allowed him to have financial input into Jogn Emes’ firm, and later the silversmithing Barnard family.
