An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver gilt beaker by John Samuel Hunt; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver gilt beaker has a cylindrical, flared rounded form.


The lobed body of this beaker is embellished with the contemporary engraved coat of arms* depicting on a cross between four lions passant guardant, a Bible lying fesseways of the field, clasped and garnished, the clasps in base, all above the inscription 'Arthur Reed Ropes, 1882'**.


This impressive beaker retains the original gilding.


This exceptional beaker was crafted by the renowned London silversmith John Samuel Hunt and bears the retailer's mark 'Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr and Motimer' to the underside.


This antique silver gilt beaker is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.


* This coat of arms pertains to the University of Cambridge.


** Arthur Reed Ropes (23 December 1859 – 11 September 1933) is better known under his pseudonym Adrian Ross, was a prolific writer of lyrics and contributed to a large range of British musicals. During World War I he was a founder of the Performing Rights Society as he continued his success, including writing the popular novel 'The Hole of the Pit' and a multitude of short stories.

The engraved inscription and coat of arms are all very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the beaker are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
