Description

This exceptional antique Indian silver inkwell has been mounted on a water buffalos hoof.

This antique inkwell is encompassed with a fine and impressive silver mount embellished with chased decoration reproducing the features of the buffalo’s fur.

The inkwell is fitted with a plain, flush hinged hallmarked cover surmounted with an elevated escutcheon supported by a curved bracket and displaying a chased decorated ornament modelled in the form of a head of a water buffalo.

The cover opens to reveal the removable glass ink liner.

Condition

This antique Indian silver inkwell is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition.

The natural hoof is in excellent condition, in keeping with age.

The chased decoration is very sharp.

The hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique silverware.
