These exceptional antique Portuguese silver candlesticks have a baluster shaped form with a waisted knopped stem onto a shaped square base, all in the 18th century manner.
The waisted cylindrical capitals of these antique silver candlesticks are encircled with organic decoration, in addition to petal designs to the fixed sconces.
The cast siler capitals are supported by tapering baluster shaped columns enveloped with further scrolling organic designs.
The square shaped foot of each candlestick is embellished with a scroll decorated shaped border, accented with leaf designs emanating up the plain inverted bell style base.
The hallmarks to the rim of each antique silver base include the 916 standard silver mark (Boar, I*).
These Portuguese cast silver candlesticks are elegant decorative pieces that bring both craftsmanship and warmth to the home. The cast silver construction is admired for its solid form and detailed design, often reflecting traditional European silversmithing techniques, while their balanced proportions make them well suited as centrepieces on a dining table, sideboard, or mantelpiece in both formal and relaxed interiors.
* This variation of the silver mark was used in Porto, Portugal between 1887-1937; this mark, in addition to the style, determines the date of these candlesticks as circa 1900.
