Description

This magnificent antique sterling silver tea and coffee set consists of a teapot, coffee pot, cream jug and sugar bowl.

Each piece of this English silver tea service has a tapering circular, rounded form onto a swept foot.

The body of each piece is ornamented with exceptional chased floral and fruit sprays to the lower portion, suspending from scrolling lozenge motifs.

The upper portion is embellished with further chased decoration, reflecting a variety of leaf designs and textures.

Each piece incorporates an elongated hexagonal vacant cartouche to either side.

The tapering shoulders of the teapot and coffee pot, and the rim of the cream jug and sugar bowl are plain, with a plain applied moulded girdle to the lower portion.

The teapot and coffee pot are both fitted with hinged, hallmarked, covers ornamented with an engraved sunburst design accented with leaf motifs to each incurve.

Each cover is surmounted with the original, magnificent hallmarked cast sterling silver finial realistically modelled in the form of a lion rampant, holding in its hands a shield shaped cartouche; these finials are the finest of their type you could hope for.

These shield shaped cartouches feature the contemporary engraved initials 'S'.

The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with impressive hallmarked, C scroll handles ornamented with leaf decorated thumbpieces and sockets.

The cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with C scroll handles reflecting the aforementioned design of the teapot and coffee pot.

The teapot and coffee pot are both fitted with exceptional cast swan necked spouts, each incorporating a large scrolling leaf design to the socket and lip.

The underside of each piece bears the retailer's mark 'Walker & Hall, Sheffield, England'

This exceptional tea service is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.
