An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English 9 carat yellow gold and mother of pearl handled butter knife - boxed; an addition to our diverse flatware collection

This exceptional antique Victorian 9ct gold butter knife has a sabre style knife blade, with a broad incurved shaped form.


The anterior face of the concave curved blade is ornamented with a segmented panel of impressive bright cut engraved foliate ornamentation, all on a matte background.


The reverse surface of the blade is plain, apart from the feature hallmarks.


This antique knife retains the original, fine and impressive carved mother of pearl handle embellished with fluted ornamentation in a swirl design to the handpiece, in addition to bead designs above a circular tiered terminal.


The hallmarked stem and ferrule of this exceptional knife is embellished with embossed foliate designs accented with circular knops.


This impressive antique gold butter knife is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with a push fit catch.


The interior of the box cover bears the retailer's mark 'The Association of Diamond Merchants, Jewellers & Silversmiths, 6, Grand Hotel Buildings, Trafalgar Square, London'.


This exceptional example of antique flatware was crafted by the renowned goldsmith and silversmith George Unite & Sons.


Date: 1895

This antique butter knife is an exceptional gauge of gold, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The presentation box is also in excellent presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp and the embossed ornamentation is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of the blade and part hallmarks to the ferrule are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique gold butter knife.
