This exceptional and rare antique George V sterling silver thread holder has been realistically modelled in the form of a Christmas cracker.
The cylindrical surface of this unusual box is embellished with a bright cut engraved scalloped oval-shaped cartouche, in addition to scalloped and pensile drop borders to either hand piece of the cracker.
This impressive antique silver thread box retains the original, hallmarked push fit cover; this comprises one of the cracker's handpieces.
The cover opens to allow access to the original, removable hallmarked silver gilt spool holder, bearing four spools of thread.
The thread holder and interior of the box bear the original gilding.
This unusual and specially commissioned box was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Asprey & Co Ltd.
An exceptional sterling silver spool holder is a rare and memorable gift for collectors, sewing enthusiasts, and antique connoisseurs. Its distinctive unconventional form and fine craftsmanship make it a prized addition to sewing collections or silver displays and a charming heirloom piece.
