Description

This magnificent antique Edwardian sterling silver mantel clock has a plain rectangular form onto four bracket style feet.

The surface of this large silver gilt mantel clock is embellished with bright cut engraved floral and insect decoration, accented with applied rosette and bud garlands to the anterior surface.

The upper plateau of the clock bears the contemporary bright cut engraved monogram initials.

This impressive antique silver mantel clock retains the original hinged hallmarked swing carrying handle.

The white enamel dial is ornamented with black hour Roman numerals, encircled with plain black chapter ring of minute markers.

The face of this timepiece is visible through a circular glass 'window' with a plain applied silver gilt border.

The hallmarked hinged door opens to reveal the original French eight-day movement with an incorporated hinged winding key, featuring a shaped handle with lobed fingerpiece.

The door has a rounded incurved thumbpiece to facilitate opening.

The anterior and interior of this impressive timepiece are gilded.

The underside of the clock bears the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb, London'.

This exceptional antique mantel clock is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire; such large gilt examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
