Description

This exceptional antique Austro-Hungarian silver five piece tea and coffee service consists of a coffee pot, teapot, hot milk jug, cream jug and sugar bowl, in addition to a matching tea tray.

Each piece has an oval rounded form with four protruding panels.

The surface of each piece, including the tea tray is plain and unembellished.

The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with plain domed hinged covers surmounted by the original carved tapering panelled finials.

Each piece of this impressive antique Austro Hungarian silver service is fitted with plain angular C shaped silver handles.

The hot milk jug and cream jug are both fitted with a trunkated spout.

The interior of the hot milk jug, cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilding.

This exceptional five piece service sits to the original and matching tea tray.

The hallmarks to the surface of each piece include:

Maker’s mark: LM (untraced)

Assay mark: Dianakopf mark - A (Vienna, Austria)

Silver quality/purity mark: Dianakopf mark* (.800, 800/1000)

* This variation of the Dianakopf mark was used for Austro-Hungarian silver between 1872-1922; this mark, in addition to the style, determines the date of this service as circa 1900.
