Sterling Silver Gilt Grape Shears - Antique Victorian (1840)

£1,895.00

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique early Victorian English sterling silver gilt grape shears; an addition to our silver flatware collection

SKU C9621

This exceptional pair of antique Victorian cast sterling silver gilt grape scissors has a hinged scissor action.

The handles of these shears are embellished with cast fruiting vine decoration, accented with tendrils, grape clusters and foliate designs, to oval-shaped fingerpieces.

The circular hinged portion is embellished with a simplified rosette design.

These antique grape shears are fitted with plain blades, with a rounded outer edge.

These exceptional examples of 19th century silver flatware retain the original gilding.

These early Victorian grape shears are a distinctive and highly decorative piece, traditionally used for serving fruit at the table, where their finely cast form and period detailing reflect both practical purpose and the elegance of Victorian dining, making them an appealing addition to a curated antique silver collection or a thoughtful gift for collectors and entertainers alike.

Date: 1840

These antique early Victorian grape shears are a superior gauge of silver, superior quality and in exceptional condition.

Full hallmarks struck across the interior of the blades are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique Victorian silverware.
