Description

This exceptional antique Victorian cast sterling silver candle holder/candlestick has a shaped figural column to a domed naturalistic base.

The cylindrical capital of this antique silver candlestick is encircled with foliate and bud decoration to the lower portion, with a moulded border to the rim.

The exceptional cast sterling silver column has been modelled in the form of a gentleman in armour / knight.

The character is attired in a complete suit of armour/panoply, accented with a sword to his belt and incorporating plumes to the open helmet.

The figure is grasping a large scrolling leaf design in his dexter hand; this leaf design conjoins the capital to the figural column.

This impressive figural column surmounts a domed circular shaped base ornamented with naturalistic textures replicating the details of a terrain mound.

This figural silver candle holder does not have a weighted base.

The surface of this exceptional example of antique Victorian silverware retains the original gilding; this has diminished with age in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

This impressive candlestick was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Charles Thomas Fox & George Fox.
