An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian horn handled and sterling silver mounted carving set - boxed; an addition to our diverse dining silverware collection.

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mounted and horn handled carving set consists of two carving knives, a carving fork and a sharpening steel.


The fine and impressive plain steel blades of the carving knives have a plain pointed form, incorporating the retailer's mark 'Murfin Brothers, Guionworks, Sheffield' to the anterior surface.


Each piece of this antique Victorian carving set is fitted with a shaped horn handle featuring an impressive hallmarked sterling silver embossed and pierced leaf decorated terminal.


Each component retains hallmarked sterling silver ferrules ornamented with a broad band of embossed leaf ornamentation, replicating the design to the terminal.


This antique carving set is fitted to the fine and impressive original hinged oak wood presentation box with a blue velvet and satin lined interior.


The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Murfin, Bros, Cutlers, Sheffield'.


The box is fitted with the original brass fittings and ornamented with a vacant shaped cartouche to the cover.

Date: 1893

This antique Victorian carving set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

There are some surface blemishes to the original steel blades as to be expected with age and use, but can be considered to be in presentation condition.

The original box is in presentation condition.

The embossed and pierced decoration is very sharp.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each mount and ferrule are all very clear.


Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these fine examples of Victorian silverware.
