This exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III sterling silver nutmeg grater has the desirable urn-shaped form.


The body of this solid silver nutmeg grater is encompassed with impressive pin struck undulating decoration, accented with a Greek key border to the upper portion.


The covers of the box incorporate a bordered cartouche ornamented with a contemporary engraved crest.


The hinged hallmarked anterior cover opens to reveal the incorporated convex steel grating grille.


This 18th century silver nutmeg grater is best suited to occasions that celebrate heritage, craftsmanship and appreciation for rare antique objects, making it an exceptional gift for collectors, history enthusiasts or lovers of fine period silverware. During the 18th century, nutmeg was considered a highly prized luxury commodity, and personal silver graters were fashionable accessories associated with refinement, travel and social status.

This Georgian silver nutmeg grater is an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition.

The pin struck decoration is all very crisp.

Full hallmarks to the underside of the urn and part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear.
